Since the beginning of May, $6.5 billion worth of parallel import goods have been imported into Russia, the Ministry of Industry and Trade estimated. By the end of the year, this figure could grow to $16 billion, and this will be just 4% of the amount imported into Russia for the whole of 2021.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, gave Interfax an estimate of the volume of parallel imports.
Manturov noted that, based on the forecast of monthly volumes of parallel imports of $2-2.5 billion, by the end of 2022 the total cost of goods imported into Russia in this way could reach $16 billion. $16 billion is 4% of that ($380 billion). ) that were imported into Russia throughout 2021.
At the end of July, the Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, estimated the volume of parallel imports at $4 billion. Based on this data, in two weeks of August, volume increased by $2.5 billion, or more than 50%.
Previously, Manturov called the parallel import scheme a “temporary solution” and allowed it to be cancelled. This will happen as domestic products appear on the Russian market to replace imported ones, the minister noted.
The experts expressed the opinion that the mechanism for the supply of goods to Russia through parallel imports can lead to a shortage of electronic products in the EAEU countries.
