The student pleaded guilty. Investigators found several payments from the digital wallet in the Exodus app that matched the dates of the calls.
The teenager told the police that he was bored and did not want to go to school. He bought bitcoin with money from the sale of stolen passwords. According to the man, he was making almost $15,000 a day and had just under a million dollars in his account.
Law enforcement also found blackmail messages against the student himself on the suspect’s computer. Someone wanted to access his crypto wallet and accidentally threatened to call the police on behalf of the teenager and his family.
