Since the beginning of the year, deliveries to Russia of smartphones worth up to 10 thousand rubles have decreased by 56%. Imports of expensive devices fell by almost 40%.
In total, 9.9 million smartphones have been delivered since January. This is 38% less than in the first half of 2021, according to the GS Group report, which Kommersant has read.
Some retailers say budget smartphone sales have been declining for several years, while others see positive dynamics ahead of the new school year.
The GS Group believes that the supply of cheap smartphones has decreased for the most part due to Samsung’s withdrawal from the Russian market: a third of the segment fell to the South Korean provider. It also affected the policy change of the Chinese Xiaomi and Realme, which almost halved the offer of budget models, the company said.
Analysts said that the technical characteristics of such devices will decrease, so the demand for them will continue to fall in the near future.
