The only requirements for using a group session are: have a Spotify Premium account and the Spotify app installed on your device. This applies to all participants in a breakout session. That is: everyone must have an account Premium to take advantage of this option.
The options offered by Spotify group sessions include: controlling playback, skipping or rewinding, and adding songs to the play queue. So, for example, if you are at a party, anyone can decide what is playing without having to ask the host to do so.
Spotify Group Session: How It Works

How to end a session
