The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that every 40 seconds an American has a heart attack. Therefore, it is important to recognize their signs in a timely manner.

Dmitry Nevelev, vice president of Cardiology at Staten Island University Hospital, shared five symptoms that indicate you’re going to have a heart attack in just seconds.

  1. Feeling chest discomfort during routine activities or while resting. Dr. According to Nevelev, if, even with minimal activity, you feel discomfort in the chest area or have difficulty breathing, if you feel discomfort in the upper body, nausea, severe sweating, consult a doctor immediately.

  2. Having a relative who has had a stroke or heart attack.
