eBay’s largest auction intends to acquire the online trading card game marketplace TCGplayer for $295 million. The deal is scheduled to close in the first quarter of 2023.

eBay to buy online trading card game marketplace TCGplayer for $295 million

TCGplayer CEO Chedi Hampson will remain in his role and TCGplayer will continue to operate as a separate service, TechCrunch writes.

eBay, in announcing the deal, called trading card games “an attractive category” with “substantial growth.” In the first half of 2021, transactions in this category were $2 billion, these transactions are comparable to figures for all of 2020.

TCGplayer was founded in 2008 by Chedi Hampson. During this time, the company has grown from a hobby store to an e-commerce platform. Now the company employs more than 600 people.
