Russians complained of difficulties paying with expired Visa and Mastercard cards. Some stores and online services do not accept them. The presence of the problem was recognized by the Central Bank, NSPK. The banks reported that the difficulties are isolated, Izvestia learned.
In March, Visa and Mastercard announced their withdrawal from Russia. Then, in the National System of Payment Cards (NSPK), issuers and acquirers were recommended to support the use of expired cards issued on a physical medium.
As a result, their cardholders could use the cards within Russia. The restrictions related only to cross-border payments and foreign transactions.
Now, customers of several large banks have problems paying with expired cards on the territory of the Russian Federation: someone could not link the card to Yandex.Go, someone could not pay for products in Wildberries.
The experts explained that failures can occur due to the lack of the necessary configurations to allow payment through expired Visa and Mastercard cards.
