Google took advantage of the commemoration of Earth Day this Friday (22) and launched a Doodle to commemorate that date. The tech giant warned about climate change whenever possible and said it was “one of the most pressing issues of our time”.

“Using real time-lapse footage from Google Earth and other sources, the Doodle shows the impact of climate change at four different points on our planet. Stay tuned throughout the day to see these scenes, according to a quote from the company’s statement.

Locations shown in the search engine gif are Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Sermersooq (Greenland), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), and the Harz Forests (Germany). The montages show how landscapes lose green space, diversity and become drier between periods.

Clicking on the doodle directs the user to a search for the term “climate change”. According to the United Nations (UN), the concept refers to “long-term changes in temperature and climate patterns.”

According to the UN, changes may be natural, but “18. Since the 19th century, human activities have been the main cause of climate change, particularly due to the burning of fossil fuels”.
