Mercedes-Benz intends to sell its car assembly plant in Esipovo, near Moscow. The main contender for the purchase is the Avtodom automobile holding company.

Mercedes-Benz decided to sell its plant in the suburbs

The site belongs to Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Rus, where Daimler KamAZ Rus JV owns 20%, the rest belongs to parent company Mercedes-Benz AG, Kommersant reported.

An interlocutor of the publication in one of the automakers said that the plant was put up for sale. Another source confirmed that the deal is almost complete and that the Russian dealer will be the buyer, but Mercedes has some “documentation problems”.

Another Moscow region real estate market source said that Avtodom claims to have a plant and that the Moscow Region Development Corporation is participating in the negotiations.

Several dealers are participating in the tender, according to the paper. The car retailer told the publication that “we are talking about a complex agreement, which also includes the rights of the distributor of the brand in the Russian market.” In his opinion, Avtodom is the main contender.

The Russian office of Mercedes-Benz added that the company is considering various options for doing business in Russia.

Mercedes-Benz has estimated the economic losses after the suspension of supplies to Russia at 1.4 billion euros. This is stated in the group’s report for the second quarter. In the first quarter, the company also calculated losses, then they amounted to 709 million euros.

Mercedes-Benz has not delivered cars to Russia since March. In June, the Russians filed lawsuits against Mercedes-Benz demanding to resume car deliveries.
