The scientists studied the data of Japanese people aged 50 to 89 years. It turned out that participants with a shift in the sagittal vertical axis (SVA) had an increased risk of mild cognitive impairment. The SVA is a straight line drawn from the C7 vertebral body perpendicular to the floor. It can progress with age.
Cognitive decline was observed at any age if the SVA deviation was greater than 70 mm in women. For men, a similar effect was observed with a deviation of more than 100 mm.
