The scientists report says that 7 out of 10 cardiovascular diseases can be prevented if everyone sleeps well. The study looked at data from 7,200 respondents surveyed between 2008 and 2011.
Participants did not have cardiovascular disease at baseline and had a mean age of 59 years and 62% were male. Researchers checked for coronary heart disease and stroke every two years for ten years. They reported that 10% of the participants had an optimal sleep score and 8% had a low baseline score.
The analysis showed that people who slept well had a 75% lower risk of heart disease or stroke.
