The results of the new study were published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ). The researchers concluded that men who consumed a lot of processed food were 29% more likely to develop colorectal cancer than those who consumed much less of such foods. At the same time, experts did not find anything similar in women.

The fact is that such harmful products contain a lot of sugar and little fiber. Therefore, a person gains weight faster and develops obesity faster.

During the study, the scientists analyzed the responses of more than 200,000 people, including 159,907 women and 46,341 men. These data are from three scientific papers aimed at studying human food consumption.

Experts found that the strongest association between colorectal cancer and highly processed foods was in men who ate ready-to-eat foods based on meat, poultry, fish (ham, bacon, sausage, fish cake). In addition, sugary drinks (in large quantities) increased the risk of this type of cancer in men: soda, fruit drinks, milk-based sugary drinks.

At the same time, the scientists found that the association between yogurt and colorectal cancer was reversed in women.
