“After 22 years of our hologram card, as the national registrar, I inform you that the current hologram cell has been discontinued.This does not mean that it has lost its validity, but that the process of massification digital electronic cell nationwide,” Vega announced.

The population directorate stated that citizens who want to make changes in the document can do so by copy. He also said that the procedure for having an electronic card, which must be accepted in all establishments, can be carried out in all capitals.

“There is no obligation to change. Anyone who wants to have and have on mobile for interoperability can do it through duplication”the registrar stated.

He reported that electronic ID will not be mandatory, but that the hologram document is expected to expire in the coming years, with plans to make a gradual change and renew 42 million documents.

“The big announcement is that it will no longer be produced and therefore our 18-year-olds will be able to get it for free, and gradually we will run a large program for 2 to 3 years. The other document will no longer be valid,” he added.

On the other hand, Vega confirmed that resources were secured during talks with President Gustavo Petro and that “the Government will make all the budgetary and technological effort to make this cell (the digital one) work with Government institutions”.
