The meta-analysis included all available data from genetic studies on ischemic strokes in young people under 60 years of age as a result of blockage of blood flow to the brain.

The authors conducted a study by performing a meta-analysis of 48 genetic and ischemic stroke studies that included 17,000 stroke patients and approximately 600,000 healthy controls who had never had a stroke. They then analyzed entire chromosomes to identify genetic variants associated with stroke and found a link between early stroke (occurring before age 60) and the region of the chromosome that contains a gene that determines blood type.

The study found that people who had an early stroke were more likely to have blood group II and less often blood group I (the most common blood group).
