Elon Musk decided to put his Twitter purchase on hold this May because of Vladimir Putin’s Victory Day speech, Business Insider reports, citing court documents.

On May 8, Musk sent a letter to an employee at Morgan Stanley, which is funding the transition. In the letter, Musk said buying Twitter doesn’t make sense “if we’re heading into World War III.”

Let’s slow down for just a few days. Putin’s speech tomorrow matters. Don’t buy Twitter if we’re heading for the Third Meaning War.

Musk’s response called the quote “complete nonsense” and promises that the full correspondence will be published.
