Last Tuesday, it was reported that the US Army had finally decided on its new small arms – we are talking about the XM5 assault rifle and the XM250 light machine gun of the German company Sig Sauer. Making their decision will be attacked by the attack of American army weapons. They replace their terrorists – the M4A1 carbine and the M249 machine gun.
New items are equipped with x157 stand-alone fire and Eve optical device. Infantry, special forces, engineering and other combat units receive new weapons.
One of the main reasons for the rearmament is that it contains trial characteristics of a 5.56 mm caliber cartridge, an M4A1 carbine and an M249 machine gun, equipped with modern army bulletproof vests “too tough”.
The characteristics of the XM5 are still unknown, however, as it turned out, they largely correspond to its civilian version – the MCX Spear, that is, the rifle has an increase of 80.6 cm and a weight of 3.8 kg. It uses a two-stage trigger and a 20-round magazine. The assault rifle will be equipped with a silencer, which will expand the possibilities of its use.
Sieg Sauer XM250XM250 is a smaller version of Sig Sauer’s MG-38. The novelty has twice the efficiency of shooting and reduced by 40% weight. The tape feed of cartridges has been retained, with reduced recoil and improved accuracy. The machine gun is also equipped with a silencer.
The promise is offered in 0.277 caliber with a new 6.8 mm caliber cartridge, which is superior in lethality and range to budget models of past generations – 5.56 and 7.62 mm cartridges.
The plans of the US Army acquired 250,000 pieces of XM5 and XM250. Upon admission, they receive the designations M5 and M250. However, there is not yet a complete rewarping of the entire ai r (the total number of sets of ar r.
