On September 21, the telecom operator MTS plans to launch the Stroky e-book service. Next to it, a publishing house will be opened to produce paper and digital books. It will specialize in fiction, historical and sentimental prose, as well as children’s literature.
In the “library” of the service, you can also find exclusive works from other publishers. Company representatives did not disclose the number of books, reports Vedomosti.
Users of the service will be able to purchase books individually or connect one of three subscription tariffs: “A little” for 299 rubles – 10 hours of access to content, “A lot” for 549 rubles – for 30 days, “Mostly ” for 899 rubles, also for a month plus access to three paid books from the premium catalog.
The Lines service expects to capture 30% of the digital book market in the next two years. Experts believe that MTS and Yandex have every chance to move the market leader Liters. However, this will not happen immediately.
In April, publishers faced a problem: the new requirements of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to limit the size of the advance on foreign exchange contracts jeopardize their business. Receiving only 30% of the advances, foreign authors believe that the publishers do not honor the terms of the contracts. The book business in Russia may face a massive outflow of foreign literature.
