National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) announced that providers receiving the 3.5 GHz band of 5G can now activate their stations this Thursday (06), Belém (PA), Macapá (AP), Manaus (AM), Porto Velho (RO) and Rio Branco (AC). . With its release in the northern states, 5G SA (Independent), also called “cigar”, is already available in all Brazilian capitals.
The decision to release the signal in the region was taken last Tuesday (4th) by the Monitoring Group on the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the band 3,625 to 3,700 MHz (Gaispi).
According to Gaispi, by November 28, Claro, Tim and Vivo operators together will have at least 57 active 5G stations in Belém, 18 in Macapá, 84 in Manaus, 21 in Porto Velho and 15 in Rio Branco. .
Since today, Those living mainly in the central regions of northern capitals will be able to use the 5G SA connection on smartphones and other devices.. The technology provides an internet with faster download speed, more stable connection, lower latency, higher connection density (increased number of connected devices in a given area), better utilization of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and more.
However, you must have a mobile phone that supports the service to connect. According to Anatel, there are currently 89 models with 5G connectivity in the Brazilian market.
5G in capitals
Yet, More than 5,000 5G SA stations activated in all capitals of Brazil, offered by the network. According to Anatel, this number represents more than 5% of the more than 90,000 mobile network stations spread across Brazil.
Since capitals make up 24% of Brazil’s population, theoretically more than 50 million people could enjoy faster internet access. However, it must be said that access is “theoretical”, as not everyone in the metropolis receives a 5G signal.
The beginning of the installation of 5G stations and the release of the signal prefers central areas of cities. For this reason, remote and peripheral neighborhoods still have little access to technology.
In the 5G Auction, which was completed in November 2021, it was announced to the public that the antennas should be installed proportionally to every 100,000 population at this stage. However, the signal is still in its infancy, mainly to serve major capital cities such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais.
The first city in the country to receive pure 5G was Brasília on July 6 this year. Installation in other capitals was delayed by multiple opportunities due to factors such as the delay in the arrival of some equipment. In addition, the cleaning of the new transmission series was delayed.
5G Calendar
In the next phase of 5G deployment in Brazil, operators are starting to target smaller cities. According to Anatel, Until the end of 2029, all municipalities with a population of less than 30,000 will be served with technology.. Check out the schedules set in the 5G Auction below.
