The deputies approved in second and third reading reforms to the law “On the Circulation of Medicines”, which allow the online sale of prescription drugs. This was reported on the website of the State Duma.

Russia allows online sale of prescription drugs

The remote sale of prescription drugs will start as an experiment and will initially work only in three regions of Russia: in the Moscow, Belgorod and Moscow regions.

“The remote sale of prescription drugs will make life easier for lonely people with limited mobility,” said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin. “In 2020, at the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic, we passed a law that allowed the online sale of over-the-counter medicines. At the same time, it was decided to draw up a bill on the remote sale of prescription drugs.

The list of drugs available for online commerce must be approved by the Ministry of Health. The law also requires pharmacies to verify the identity of the citizen to whom the medication prescription is issued with the identity of the citizen to whom the medication will be delivered.

Drugs containing narcotic, psychotropic or potent substances will not be sold online.

The law will enter into force on March 1, 2023 and will be in force until March 1, 2026.

Online trading of OTC drugs in Russia was allowed in 2020. At the end of August, Russian Post began delivering over-the-counter drugs to residents of small towns and remote areas.
