Google’s first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, will launch next Thursday (13), equipped with Wear OS 3 and providing integration with the company’s services. However, the device is still will not have fall detection functionIt is scheduled to be released only in 2023.
The information has been verified by Big Tech, founded by Larry Page, which may disappoint many users who have already purchased. Fall detection is available on Apple and Samsung smartwatches, among others, and is somewhat standard across devices of the same tier.
The fall detector activates when the device experiences a sudden loss of height or hits the ground. An emergency alert is automatically sent to the selected contacts. Thus, the user can get help in accidents or situations that pose a serious risk to their health.
This functionality can make a lot of difference for seniors: according to many reports, notably the Apple Watch, several older people are already spared after a fall or sudden health problems thanks to this feature.
What will Google’s smartwatch look like?
Google’s smartwatch is made of stainless steel and glass and has a choice of a dozen colored bracelets. The device supports contactless payment (NFC), can control music devices, has built-in GPS and Bluetooth. A more advanced model also offers smartphone connectivity.
The main distinguishing feature of the Pixel Watch is integration with Fitbit solutions, which are part of Google. But the device costs $350 in the US and more expensive than the cheaper Apple Watch model ($100).
