During the Connect event, Meta announced a partnership with Microsoft to bring more productivity to its metadatabase. The software giant has announced that it is bringing various solutions to the Facebook owner’s digital worlds, including apps like Office, Windows 365, and Microsoft Teams.
Apps and platforms will integrate with Meta’s business solutions such as Horizon Workrooms, in addition to working in virtual reality on Meta Quest series headsets. The promise is that the partnership guarantees greater immersion, guaranteeing greater productivity and opportunities for companies and employees.
With Microsoft 365, users will be able to use OutLook in virtual reality as well as applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Windows 365 will bring the full Windows 11 experience via streaming to Meta headsets.
During the presentation, Microsoft presented some demonstrations of the applications running within the metadata store. While solutions like Office 365 and Windows 365 haven’t gained much prominence, Satya Nadella and Mark Zuckerberg have shown a lot of interest in Teams.
Microsoft’s business communication platform will be fully optimized for virtual reality. Also, users will be able to use Meta avatars in their business meetings in the future.
While the two companies are already working together to release more apps in the Metadata repository, there is no release date yet for Microsoft’s apps in the Metadatabase.
beyond Microsoft
It’s worth noting that Microsoft is not Meta’s only partner in expanding its metastore. The company is also working with Zoom to improve the video calling experience in its metaverse.
On the productivity side, Meta has announced that companies like Adobe and Autodesk are already optimizing their apps for 3D rendering on the Meta Quest series of headsets.
