Russian companies in various sectors of the economy have begun to pay more attention to internal communications since February this year, a study by Mikhailov & Partners has shown.

After February, Russian companies began to pay more attention to internal communications.

Directors and heads of human resources and public relations participated in the survey. Thus, according to the study, since the beginning of the year, 78% of the companies surveyed have become more active in the field of internal communication. In only 19% of cases, the intensity of the dialogue with employees did not change.

Main results of the study

  • 78% of companies see a greater importance of internal communications since February 2022
  • 7% of companies show a permanent crisis in terms of communication with employees
  • Only in 12% of companies is the CEO personally responsible for dialogue with employees
  • 8% of companies do not collect feedback at all.

The greater role of internal communication was observed mainly in companies specializing in retail, consulting, IT, industry and transport. To a lesser extent, the trend is observed in the public sector.

Internal communication issues are handled primarily by the HR unit under the personal supervision of the director or vice president of personnel. Less often, this area of responsibility is assigned to the public relations department.

Face-to-face and online meetings are predominantly used to interact with employees; this format is preferred by 30% of the companies surveyed. Another 24% use closed Telegram channels, VK groups and corporate portals for these purposes.

As a general rule, large industrial or IT companies have separate corporate media and their own communication applications: 13% and 8%, respectively. In some organizations, due to general uncertainty, call centers for employees were launched from February 2022.
