Former Apple engineer Shaq Ron, who has worked at Apple for 10 years since 2007, toldthat the company’s employees were against advertising in the App Store, but the management decided otherwise.
When ads first appeared in the App Store in beta versions of iOS, many inside were very upset. This was an insult to our clients. We backed off a lot. After the meeting, where the management pretended to listen to our concerns, it became obvious that they were not going to change their minds.

According to Ron, this was the strongest opposition he had ever seen at Apple. But it was doomed “because Tim Cook saw the money Google and others were making from app ads and decided he wanted some of the money.”
Ron was a senior core engineer at Apple and now works at Nvidia.
Earlier this week, Apple increased the number of ads in the App Store, after which it faced criticism from users and got busy. The company has temporarily suspended advertising for certain app categories. [Twitter]
