Audio and video recording is optional during rides with Uber and riders will be notified when the vehicle is activated. The company’s idea is to scale up the security functionality without increasing costs, as the smartphone is already a device used while traveling.
Uber, however, reinforces that: recordings are saved and encrypted on mobile phones. In this way, partner drivers will be able to record but not access them during their journey. If a security incident is reported, files can be sent to Uber’s support team for material review.
With the file sent, the driver will be able to file a complaint, and only the company itself will be able to access the recorded content. If an investigation is opened, the material may also be shared with the authorities as required by local law.
