Uralsib Bank has agreed to acquire Citibank’s consumer loan portfolio, reports RBC citing sources. The contract was concluded on October 28. Before the crisis, these assets were estimated at 48 billion rubles.
As one of the interlocutors of the publication explained, the operation may refer to the repurchase of rights on loans. Uralsib will also be able to refinance credit cards if their holders agree.
Citibank is a subsidiary of the American Citigroup. The value of its assets is estimated at 717.2 billion rubles. In the summer, the group announced the cessation of its activities in Russia. At the same time, Uralsib showed interest in buying Citigroup’s Russian assets.
This week, Vladimir Putin approved a list of credit institutions that are prohibited from carrying out transactions with shares and shares of legal entities of “enemy” countries. For these transactions, they will need a special permit. The list included Citibank.
