Former Apple employee Dhirendra Prasad pleaded guilty to fraud that resulted in the theft of more than $17 million from the company’s accounts, prosecutors in Northern Siberia said.

Prasad Worked at Apple from 2008 to 2018 in the Global Connectivity team. It is used to purchase components for Apple in various market segments.

He started cheating on Apple in 2011 by taking kickbacks, overbilling, arming, and making Apple liable for goods and services it doesn’t get. In this he is helped by two accomplices: Robert Hansen and Don Baker.

In 2013, Prasad shipped a setup of a CTrends shell company’s Baker board from Apple’s warehouse. CTrends collected the fee, and Prasad Devices ordered on behalf of Apple for these assembled components. Baker sent the board back to Apple, and CTrends billed Apple. So Apple had to pay for this same use of the board.

In 2016, Prasad received a shipment of components from Apple inventory found in a warehouse in Nevada to Quality Electronics Distributors, Inc., a company registered to Hansen. The accomplice received the parts, replaced them, and sent them back to the Apple warehouse. To do this, Prasad determines the purchase order components.

Prasad has also been found guilty of tax fraud. He produced a fake billing front company, CTrends, to cover Baker’s illegal payments to Prasad. This calculation to Baker has hundreds of thousands of unsubstantiated tax deductions. As a result of damage to the IRS amounted to $ 1.8 million.

Prasad’s assets, including real estate and various appraisals, are estimated at $5 million. He transferred all assets to the use of the United States.

Prasad faces up to 20 years in prison. The verdict will be announced on March 14, 2023. [CNET]
