Twitter will add a second checkbox for verified accounts. Now all accounts have two checkmarks at once: the blue one indicates the collection of paid subscriptions to Twitter Blue, and the gray one indicates that the account is actually eligible to receive.
The gray checkmark gives access to accounts, commercial companies, public figures, major media outlets and publishers.
The company took this step after Twitter Blue followers began to impersonate avid people. Partly because of this, Twitter was temporarily allowed to follow until after the US midterm elections.
Twitter will use a gray checkmark and “Official” label for accounts that are actually verified
Twitter is finally acknowledging some of the issues that anyone can have a blue tick in exchange for $8 a month. The company now says that in addition to the paid blue check, some accounts will also receive a new “Official” check. a label marked with a gray check mark on their profiles. Change of strategy [?]
