The Bank of Russia does not rule out criminal risks for the shareholders of Meta** after the completion of trading of its securities on the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange, the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank Vladimir Chistyukhin told reporters at the forum of finopolis.

Central Bank did not rule out criminal risks for Meta shareholders**

In March, a Russian court recognized the US corporation Meta** as an extremist and banned its activities in the country. In October, the organization was placed on the list of terrorists and extremists, and this week the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange announced that November 11 would be the last day of trading in the company’s securities in the main modality. By November 14th, the site will completely stop operating with Meta shares**.

“Criminal risks may threaten after the legal status of security holders is clarified. We must first decide step number one: whether to view Meta’s actions as extremist investments. If this is recognized as such, then yes, there will probably be some restrictions, ”Chistyukhin was quoted as saying by TASS.

He also added that the Central Bank does not have the authority to assign such statuses. In the opinion of the First Vice President, the decision of the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange to withdraw the paper of the American company from circulation is correct. He said several countries are limiting deals with Russian companies “just in case” and not because of sanctions.

** Recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia, included in the terrorist list.
