Sales of new electric vehicles in Russia grew in 2022. In 10 months of this year, 2,090 electric vehicles were purchased in the country, which represents 34% more than in the same period last year. Tesla is the market leader in Russia.
Between January and October 2022, the market for new electric vehicles in Russia grew by 34% year-on-year. This is reported by “Autostat”.
During 10 months this year, 2,090 new electric vehicles were purchased in Russia. The leading position is held by Tesla with a 39% market share for the reporting period. Tesla Model Y became the most popular model: its share was 17.5%. In 2021, Porsche Taycan became the leader in electric vehicle sales in Russia with a 33% share.
The electric vehicle market in Russia reached its highest growth in the period from January to March 2022: sales grew by 2-4 times. Experts attribute this to the abolition of zero tariffs on the importation of electric vehicles into the country: importers brought in large quantities and consequently sold more.
In September, the market for new electric vehicles grew by 30%, in October – by 59%. The experts explain the significant growth of the market as a consequence of the legalization of the parallel import scheme, which includes electric vehicles.
