The Ministry of Digital Development intends to update the Russian software classifier and add VR and AR software to it. The corresponding document was published on the project portal for regulatory legal acts on November 21.

The Ministry of Digital Development plans to add VR and AR software to the Russian software classifier

The classifier will have a new section and 32 classes of programs, particularly virtual and augmented reality systems. The project should optimize the structure of Russian and Eurasian software registries, as well as make it easier for customers to find the necessary solutions, Vedomosti writes.

Depending on the project, new classes of programs will appear in most of the existing sections. So, for example, in the section “Information Security Tools” classes such as means of protection against DDoS attacks, means of protecting mail systems, virtual environments and industrial automation systems will be added.

In the Software Development Tools section, mobile platforms for developing mobile applications and tools for reverse engineering of program code will appear, in the Embedded Software – Artificial Intelligence Firmware section. Also, programs for creating VR and playing AR will be assigned in a separate class of the “Data Analysis Tools” section.

The emergence of new classes will help developers to enter the software registry and qualify for taxes and other benefits, said Vladimir Lebedev, head of development group in Reksoft’s Mining Solutions Department. In addition, this will exempt developers from paying VAT and give them an advantage in tenders: government agencies and companies with state participation do not have the right to purchase foreign software if there is an analogue in the registry.

In addition, listed companies have the opportunity to receive loans on favorable terms, grants for development from the state, and their employees – mortgages at a reduced rate.
