Google announced YouTube to officially discontinue Go mobile app. No longer available in online stores and as no updates since at least October 2021 Will stop working from August 2022.

According to the company, the traditional app for browsers and the YouTube website are already at a level of optimization that allows it to be a cost-effective version for mobile data, unstable Wi-Fi networks or less powerful devices. Therefore, it would no longer make sense to keep an app just for these situations.

Already considering the transition, Google will start inviting YouTube Go users to switch. The limited platform doesn’t even have a few basic features like posting comments or using dark mode. In other words, this is also a way the company has found to integrate more people into the community.

YouTube Go launched in 2016 and arrived in Brazil two years later in a wave of affordable versions, which social networks like Twitter and Facebook Messenger also took advantage of. But Google seems increasingly willing to put an end to these versions: Google Chrome It’s also discontinued for Android in 2022.
