HE Google Officially launched on Friday, December 2nd, Android 13 for TVs🇧🇷 The new version of the operating system for televisions promises improvements in performance and quality of use, while offering users and developers more accessibility control.

Android 13 for TVs is now available for developers and programmers. Updates and news will reach the end user as manufacturers implement their versions on televisions made available to the public.

What’s changing in Android 13 for TVs?

Among the changes for creators and users, Google highlights some:

  • Users will be able to change the default system resolution and refresh rate on HDMI devices that support the setting.
  • Improvements to the AudioManager API will allow developers to predict support for audio attributes and choose the best format for the device.
  • Configuration changes allow dongles and other HDMI devices to save power by pausing content when they detect changes in HDMI status.

What’s New in Accessibility

Google also highlighted some of the new features Android 13 offers on TVs, specifically focused on device accessibility.

  • The system now supports different keyboard layouts. Game developers will also be able to use the physical location of the keys to assign commands to automatically support different physical layouts.
  • A new audio description API allows apps to “ask” the system’s audio description settings, so the app automatically delivers descriptions based on user-configured ones.
