MTS is losing the quality of mobile communications in the tunnels of the three busiest lines of the Moscow Metro.

We are talking about the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya lines, which carry about 3 million passengers daily. After increasing the average speed of the Internet, they increased by 7.5 times to 60 Mbps, and the network capacity – by 3.5 times.

In the tunnels, sources are indicated to ensure the reliability of networks and the reliability of communications by operators. Work is planned until the end of 2023.

The need to develop the network in subways with the growth of the Internet activity of passengers. Over the past year, data transmission traffic in the subway has grown by more than 45%, mainly due to Internet sessions in hauls during the journey. Passengers read, listen to music, listen to movies, communicate in instant messengers, study and work.

Currently, depending on the workload of the train, we have significantly expanded the network capacity and increased the speed of the Internet in the tunnels with the densest passenger traffic. MTS continues to work on other sections so that our customers can freely use mobile communications in any subway.

All affected LTE 800/1800/2100/2600 MHz bands were also combined to include bandwidth.

At all stations and subway crossings, MTS installed new equipment and reconfigured the network at the beginning of 2022. The average speed of mobile Internet on platforms and interchange nodes has increased to 100 Mbps.
