On the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of the Russian Federation, a message appeared that the department “warns about the mass hijacking of Telegram accounts”.

The Ministry of Digital Investigation warns against the “hijacking” of Telegram accounts

The report indicates that attempted robberies have become widespread on Saturday.

“When an account is hijacked, it is not clear if all correspondence is downloaded and what other actions are carried out,” the department clarifies.

As a rule, the scheme is the same: the user receives a message from someone from the contact list that he can get a subscription to Telegram Premium as a “gift” via the link.

When you click the link, a code appears, ostensibly to activate a premium subscription, but the code actually launches a hacker program that opens an account on the scammers’ computer.

“The new account immediately sends such messages to the entire contact list and removes them from the sent list. At the same time, the message stays with the recipients”, specifies the Ministry of Digital Transformation in the message.

The agency emphasizes that the account is secure only when two-factor authentication is enabled, which requires an additional password for any action, making the attacker’s scheme untenable.
