The Russian government is discussing systemic measures to support the Russian video game industry until 2030. The corresponding meeting was held on December 15 in the apparatus of the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maxim Parshin.
The meeting discussed the new federal project “Gaming Industry of the Future”, the interests of which will be led by Maxim Parshin.
There are three options for the development of the industry:
▪️ Stabilization: the recovery of the game development industry and the entry of Russia into the top 20 countries in this indicator. It reached $7 billion by 2030
▪️ Ambitious: provides for an “industry breakthrough”, the essence of which is not disclosed. It needs $20 billion
▪️ Leadership: By 2030, Russian game studios will compete with world leaders. The state can use domestic video games abroad as a “soft power tool”. This $50 Billion Success Scenario
The Ministry of Digital Development reports that the formats, options and sources of funding are being worked out, with the most likely extra-budgetary mechanisms being proposed.
Expected that by 2030 the Russian studio will release 25 AAA games (top projects with a budget of 6.5 billion rubles each), 40 AA games (up to 1.6 billion rubles per game). All games will be for PC and consoles. Two game consoles released by 2030.
In total, 40 thousand people will work in the industry. In 7 years, five “gamedev cities” should appear in Russia.
