The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service received a request from a member of the department’s public council to verify the validity and legality of the Wildberries market that fines sellers for incorrect product dimensions.

FAS will verify the validity and legality of Wildberries fines for sellers

The reason for the need for verification, as Lenta writes with reference to RIA Novosti, is that innovations occur unilaterally, and providers do not even know all the terms of the contract.

As early as the beginning of December, sellers using Wildberries’ services began to complain that they were massively fined for incorrectly specified product dimensions.

At the same time, providers were not informed about how and according to what criteria fines are charged and how fees are formed.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service also received documents proving that these fines are not reflected in the bid contracts and tariff requests in any way, and after the cancellation of the fine no reports are received.

Some sellers indicate that the accumulation occurs according to non-obvious algorithms: for example, a fine may come from a batch of the same product only for one batch.

Wildberries explains the need for fines by the fact that some suppliers deliberately underestimate the dimensions of the products in order to make transportation cheaper, for which both the market and the carriers bear losses.

The company assures that since December 12, it canceled additional payments for incorrectly indicated merchandise dimensions.

The FAS accepted the application and said that the consideration of the application and the related investigation would be carried out in the prescribed manner.
