Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra were updated to One UI 5 in November of this year. Along with the new version of the system customized by Samsung, Android 13, the latest version of the operating system, came. A detail that makes everything even more important is this: The last major update for these devices is the last in the Note series.
As we know, the mobile phone lineup, which was once the absolute pinnacle of what Samsung has to offer, has been discontinued to the detriment of the manufacturer’s new folding devices. After Samsung’s three-year upgrade policy, the Galaxy Note 20 has reached its third and final year with Android 13.
It is important for users of these devices to know that they will no longer be able to receive Android updates, but it is equally important to note that this does not mean that the phones will be abandoned. For example, patches and security fixes must continue for at least another year.
A UI can still be updated
It’s also interesting to keep in mind that One UI updates are still possible. As long as Samsung makes changes to its own system based on the same version of Android, nothing can stop these updates from reaching the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
But we have no promises that this will happen. In February 2023, just two months from now, the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, the next generation of Samsung’s high-end devices, will take place.
With the debut, the company should also roll out One UI 5.1, so the manufacturer will announce the list of devices that will receive this update from then on. Only then can we be sure whether the Galaxy Note 20 will be among the candidates to receive One UI 5.1.
