Since the beginning of the month, Sberbank has begun testing a new payment tag, said Kirill Tsarev, first deputy chairman of the bank’s board of directors. It can be attached to any smartphone and pay for purchases with a single touch.
In the spring, after the entry of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine, contactless payment services Apple Pay and Google Pay for Visa and Mastercard bank cards were suspended in the Russian Federation.
According to the vice president, it is too early to talk about the timing of the launch of a new payment instrument, now the project is at the testing stage.
“So far, this is only a test, since you need to understand how well the tag attached to the phone works, whether the signal is interrupted and how stable the payment is,” Tsarev told the TASS news agency.
He added that the bank is exploring various technologies, in particular, the introduction of payment rings or bracelets. However, according to Tsarev, there is not much demand for such payment methods.
Previously, a payment tag appeared on Tinkoff. The credit institution promised that from January the technology would be available to all customers.
