About six months after launch, Android 13 is available on 5.2% of devices running Google’s operating system. Official distribution numbers were recently released in Android Studio.

This is the fastest adoption process compared to older OS versions., despite the low number. Part of the strategy has to do with specific brands like Samsung, Realme, and Google that are quickly making the platform available to customers.

Google has released a monthly Android distribution report for developers. After Android Studio became responsible, the period of the document changed and the last update was published in August 2022, days before the release of Android 13.

So without distinguishing between versions, final graph shows Android 12 and 12L running on 18.9% of devices. This is a significant increase compared to the 13.5% result announced last year.

Released in 2020, Android 11 remains the most adopted version and still performed by 24.4% of devices. Android 10, which has been available since 2019, is in the second place with 19.5% of devices with the operating system.

Android Studio’s distribution report also reveals some intriguing data. For example, legacy Android Lollipop (5.0) and KitKat (4.0) are still available on 2.1% and 0.7% respectively of mobile devices.

Metrics used in Android reporting

There are no details about the metric used in the distribution of Android versions. But it can be assumed that Android Studio’s figures are based on devices that access the Google Play Store within a week, as Google has done in the past.
