At the end of 2022, Russian software developers applied to the Ministry of Digital Transformation to extend the preferential income tax rate for accredited IT companies. The companies offered to consider making the zero rate perpetual or raising it to 3%, Kommersant writes.

Software developers asked to extend preferential income tax rate

In the summer of 2020, the authorities passed a bill to support the IT industry, according to which the income tax for accredited technology companies was reduced from 20% to 3%. The document did not specify the expiration date of the benefit.

In July 2022, President Vladimir Putin approved the amendments, according to which the tax was 0% until 2024. Representatives of the sphere are concerned that after the expiration of the benefits, the rate will return to the level of two years ago. .

If the tax rate returns to the level of 20% or even 3%, the situation in the industry will deteriorate significantly and the attractiveness of the Russian jurisdiction for business will decrease, analysts say. This will negatively affect the salary of employees, their further work in the company.

The lawyers believe that companies will be able to return to the 3% rate from 2025 without special measures. However, even in this case, market participants emphasize, the increase in taxes will complicate import substitution projects of foreign software and equipment.
