According to scientific research, those who are slightly overweight have the lowest risk of death.

Obesity is really harmful to health and it is common knowledge. But according to Jun Sasaki, president of Yushokai Medical Corporation, in old age it is better to be fat rather than thin. And a study has proven it.

In a recently published study, scientists followed nearly 350,000 people in Japan over a 10-year period. On average, the participants were over the age of 40.

It turned out that the lowest probability of death in women was BMI of 23-24.9, in men – 25-26.9. And the longest possible life was maximum at a slightly higher weight than standard.

Being overweight in old age is beneficial as it helps to prevent the decline of one’s physical and mental vitality. That is, deterioration in cognitive functions, muscle strength, etc.
