After some Amazon employees started using ChatGPT to simplify some internal routines like answering questions from Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers and writing training manuals, the Seattle giant decided to intervene. Screenshots of the instant messaging app reveal that the company representative asked employees not to share “any Amazon sensitive information”, including internal code they were working on with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Why is Amazon interested in ChatGPT?
The warning comes after the attorney witnessed cases where some ChatGPT responses faithfully imitated Amazon’s internal materials. “This is important because your inputs can be used as training data for a new ChatGPT iteration, and we don’t want your output to contain our confidential information or look like us“, warned his representative.
The company’s concerns are probably justified. An article published on Thursday (26) inside information showed how an Amazon engineer sent ChatGPT to a job interview at the company. According to the publication, the AI not only answered all questions correctly, but also made suggestions for some code improvements.
The chatbot’s responses stunned the interviewer. “I’m honestly impressed,” he wrote on Slack. He concluded by saying: “I am both terrified and excited to see the impact this will have on the way we do business. [futuras] coding conversations”. However, internally, everyone is aware of this.
