There are several tens of thousands of abandoned oil and gas wells in the world that appear in relation. However, when they appear, they can also be used, as observations from the University of Illinois did.

University lead researcher Thugs Beiser and colleagues built one of the abandoned oil wells in the Illinois Basin in a geothermal reality. To do this, they pumped water into themselves, preheated to a temperature of 50 ° C, located about 915 meters in a layer of porous sandstone, which is an ideal heat insulator.

The result of the experiment exceeded all expectations: a long-lasting geothermal battery, a long-term energy, and moreover, calculations show that the detection technology can be profitable in the future – the price of 1 kWh of such energy is only 0.138 dollar.
