The Bank of Russia will allow novice investors to trade on the stock exchange with leverage, but with certain restrictions. Previously, the regulator did not want to allow newcomers to trade on margin due to the high risks for them.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation decided to single out novice investors in a separate category of “novice investors” and allow them to engage in margin trading. This was announced by Olga Shishlyannikova, Director of the Department of the Bank of Russia, in an interview on the Cbonds youtube channel.
Novice investors are supposed to be able to use leverage in stock trading, but with restrictions. In the first year from the moment they enter the exchange, they will only be able to trade with a reduced “shoulder” relative to clients with a standard level of risk, Shishlyannikova said.
At first, the Central Bank intended to completely ban newcomers from margin trading due to the high risk for them. Later, the regulator changed its position and announced that novice investors would be allowed to trade with leverage, but its size would be limited.
