At first, access to the website was slow for 48 hours. The agency then blocked the online encyclopedia for failing to remove the content in question within a few days.

The Wikimedia Foundation has confirmed that Pakistan has blocked Wikipedia and other projects. “In Pakistan, the English Wikipedia gets over 50 million page views per month, followed by Urdu and Russian versions,” said the Wikimedia Foundation. They also stated that if the isolation continues, it will deprive Pakistanis of access to information about the country’s history and culture.

A PTA spokesperson told reporters that the agency is in talks with Wikipedia officials and will consider removing the website’s ban if it removes “profanity” content altogether.
