Google has announced new AI-powered features in Translator. The vehicle is now a improved contextual search, augmented reality translation with Google Lens, as well as a redesigned app for the iOS operating system.

Since some languages use the same word with different meanings, Google Translate will allow interpretation based on context. These idioms include, however, currently only available in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.

The app will also allow you to make calls using the device’s camera with Google Lens integration. The platform promises to translate text in complex images in a more natural way using machine learning.

This last feature is still exclusive to Android with at least 6GB of RAM. In the announcement, Google also said it’s expanding web image translation to everyone.

Finally, Google Translate promises greater accessibility with a redesign of the app for iOS, which has already been released on Android. It provides a larger screen for writing new apps, audio input, translation with the Lens camera, and more accessible entry points for translating conversations.

Software on iPhones and iPads includes a dynamic font that adapts to text, alternative translations and dictionary definitions, and new gestures to select languages with less tapping and more readable results. The app has gained 33 more languages available for download.

Google says the news is “to provide useful and contextual information when using Translator on mobile and the web.” The translation tool has around 1 billion users.
