Rosatom structures were able to agree on the purchase of processor developer Elbrus – MCST, Kommersant learned. Negotiations started in 2021, but then the price was set too high. At the same time, one of the interlocutors of the publication denies Rosatom’s interest in the developer.

Rosatom Structures will buy processor developer Elbrus – Kommersant

NPO Critical Information Systems (NPO KIS), which was established by Rosatom last fall, will receive 100% of JSC MCST, says one of the interlocutors. According to him, the deal is non-monetary. The structure then set its sights on acquiring assets in the electronics market, the sources said at the time.

The sale of MCST’s assets was discussed in 2021, but the company then priced it inflated, so the deal fell through. However, negotiations continued in 2022. According to the publication’s interlocutor, at one of the electronics manufacturers, after a pre-sale audit, Rosatom expressed a desire to manage the asset, but was not ready to buy it.

The state corporation did not comment on the situation. Another interlocutor of the publication, close to MCST shareholders, did not confirm Rosatom’s interest in the Elbrus developer.

JSC “MCST” is under international sanctions in connection with the introduction of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine. Until March 2022, the processor architecture and the Elbrus family of microprocessors were produced by TSMC, a Taiwanese company. Due to sanctions, the developer had to move production to Russia.
