Google announced Bard earlier this week to get ahead of Microsoft, and then Microsoft released an update for Bing with a ChatGPT-based neural network.

“Dear Sundar, Bard’s launch and dismissal was hasty, unfortunate, and unforeseen,” writes one company employee. Other employees at the company reportedly started sending memes to each other, likening last year to a dumpster fire at Google.

At the company’s general shareholders’ meeting in December, Picar and AI chief Jeff Dean reportedly voiced concerns about exactly this, saying it’s a “reputation risk” to launch an AI tool too early.

Only time will tell where all this will lead.
