The scientific evidence we have today shows that dinosaurs didn’t actually roar. And this is for two reasons.
First, the lion’s roar can be reproduced thanks to the vocal cords (folds of tissue in the throat) that big cats have. People have such bonds. But there’s also no evidence that dinosaurs had them either.
Dinosaurs are also the ancestors of modern birds. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that some dinosaurs were chirping like birds. Some dinosaurs made noises with their mouths closed, similar to ostriches, according to a 2016 study.
Modern birds have a vocal apparatus – a syrinx with which they chirp. A syrinx was also recently found in a Cretaceous bird fossil. This raises the possibility that some dinosaurs also had such sound devices.
