American paleontologists have discovered in Zealand the skeleton of a prehistoric New Zealand penguin of small size. It is most likely the largest ptits in history. It was named “Kumimanu fordycei”, which means “monster bird” in Maori.

A title of great content: unlike modern penguins, which are agile and mostly miniature swimmers, Kumimanu fordycei was extremely clumsy and very bulky. Based on the remains of the bones, a 3D model of a bird was created, its height was calculated as 160 cm, and its weight was 150 kg. These are the dimensions of the board.

The main problem of Kumimanu fordycei was that it appeared at a very good time for itself – the dinosaurs had already died out, and new large marine predators had not yet appeared. Therefore, the creature was close to the top of the chain and evolved very slowly. In particular, this monster exhibits rudimentary parts of the wings of its ancestors – flying birds, so its upper limbs are much less suitable for swimming than modern penguins. And this does not happen, neither to swim, nor to fly, nor to give birth because of the large mass, you have not seen.
